Prof. Spitkovsky is interested in applications of kinetic plasma processes to high-energy astrophysics. Through particle-in-cell simulations, he is studying particle acceleration in collisionless shocks and in relativistic reconnection, and works on understanding the structure and dynamics of pulsar magnetospheres and pulsar winds. He is also involved in developing next-generation multiscale methods for simulations of astrophysical plasmas.
